Earlier this year, BCA launched the GRIZZLY, a full-size duty 9mm polymer handgun built with perfect ergonomics and 20-degree grip angle. When BCA’s design leaders contacted PLT to discuss textures, immediately the collaborating teams agreed the stippling needed to be “fur” like.

The pattern strategy was to accentuate a bear’s guard coat – long, coarse hairs with defined tips. Following the success of the pattern design, the focus shifted to balancing the texture’s extensive depth with the frame to produce a comfortable, secure grip. The pattern eclipses 0.030” in depth and possesses fine features which immediately present challenges for injection molding polymer, however, PLT’s in-house sampling allowed for subtle pattern tweaks and confirmed manufacturability.
